Kedarkantha
One of India's most famous winter treks. Dense pine forests, frozen lakes, picturesque campsites and a panoramic summit make it a favourite among first-time snow trekkers.
About the Kedarkantha trek
Kedarkantha is one of India's most popular winter treks — and for good reason. Dense pine forests dusted with snow, frozen Juda Ka Talab lake, and a summit at 12,500 ft with panoramic views of Swargarohini and Black Peak make this a favourite for first-time snow trekkers.
Best season
December through April is peak snow season. Fresh snowfall transforms the trail into a white wonderland. Spring departures (March–April) offer a mix of snow and emerging greenery.
Who is this trek for?
- Beginners looking for a rewarding winter Himalayan experience
- Families and groups wanting a manageable summit trek
- Anyone who dreams of camping in snow-covered pine forests
What to expect on the trail
The trek begins at Sankri and climbs through Juda Ka Talab to base camp. Summit day starts before dawn for a sunrise view from the top — one of the most celebrated moments on any Indian winter trek. The descent passes through Hargaon meadows before returning to Sankri.
Himalayan Ibex provides proper winter gear guidance, experienced snow-trek leaders, and small-group departures designed for safety in cold conditions.
